In this case, purple crocuses – please see www.focusonthecrocus.orgThe significance of purple is that it represents the dye colour placed on the youngster’s indexfinger to indicate they have been immunised during one of the many National ImmunisationDays (NID’s) held in just parts of Nigeria, India, Pakistan and Afghanistan. Originally whenRotary commenced its Polio eradication campaign polio was endemic in over 128 countries!Your local Rotary Club will provide the bulbs free of charge to your school. Working with youthey will arrange a planting and publicity plan to build on the ‘headline’ PR planting event beingheld in Trafalgar Square on 2nd October. You can contact your local Rotary Club’s by keying inyour postcode in the ‘Find a Club’ box on the top right of www.ribi.org/Rotary Clubs need to order by 15th July to guarantee supplies for autumn planting. So if youwould like to take part please contact your Rotary Club as soon as possible before this date.The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (Microsoft) are supporting Rotary’s endeavours to EndPolio Now. For each pound Rotary raises their Foundation will add £1.78 … enough to fund five(5) child immunisations. So you may wish to also undertake in some fundraising and buy somebulbs either to plant in your school grounds or nurture at home and bring to school in a whackycontainer to create a wonderful display in school, before half term in February. A 20p donationhappens to be the cost a immunising a child in the remaining affected areas. Simply pass fundsraised by your school to your local Rotary Club to get that dividend, a certificate and know youhave been part of something wonderful.
