103 year old Golders Green Rotarian passes to higher service
The members of the Rotary Club of Golders Green bring the sad tidings that our dear friend and member Raolo Giusti passed away most peacefully yesterday at his home, in the company of his family. He had just celebrated his 103rd birthday and he was able to see the card which we had all sent to him and he heard our messages read out.
Since his wife Nini passed away a few years ago he continued to live at his apartment in Finchley Central under the watchful eye of a live-in carer. He had a splendid life and achieved much and I am sure his full story will be told in due course by his family and our members.

New Year’s Day Walkers Wanted
Rotary in London is joining with the London Borough of Harrow to take part in the London New Year’s Day Parade.
It is one of the world’s great street spectaculars with up to 10,000 performers from across continents, hundreds of thousands of spectators on the streets – and a live television audience of tens of millions.
London’s New Year’s Day Parade 2012, is the FIRST OFFICIAL EVENT in a year of celebrations to mark Her Majesty QUEEN ELIZABETH II’s DIAMOND JUBILEE. London’s New Year’s Day Parade 2012 is also the FIRST OFFICIAL EVENT in London’s 2012 OLYMPIC YEAR.
The theme of the Harrow/Rotary in London tableau is Going for Gold, with the borough featuring groups of young people with an Olympic theme and Rotary will be collecting money for End Polio Now. All proceeds from the street side collection will be divided equally between the Mayor of Harrow’s charities and End Polio Now.
An open top Routemaster bus will be the centrepiece of the tableau and we are looking for up to 25 Rotarians to walk alongside the bus, waving to the crowd and some collecting as we walk.
The Parade starts at 11.45am on Piccadilly at the junction with Berkeley Street outside the Ritz Hotel and finishes around 3pm at Parliament Street.
If you would like to take part, please email Jeremy Jessel and joining instructions will be sent to you, remember we can only take 25 Rotary walkers, so please reply quickly.
Thatu – Speaker recommendation from Chiswick & Brentford
Chiswick and Brentford have had a delightful young speaker from Thatu.
Speaker Catherine McGarey from Thatu.Org. www.thatu.org
Thatu started in 2004 and raises funds to help improve the health, education, nutrition and life-chances of some of the lowest income communities in South Africa. Its has an impressive number of local partner orgs. at the cliff face, SEED being one. 100% of the money they raise goes on the projects supported. They are currently trying to raise their profile and are seeking introductions to Rotary Clubs in South Africa.
