DISTRICT 1130 ROTARY FOUNDATION
11 April 2010
ROTARY FOUNDATION GLOBAL GRANTS
Rotary Foundation Global Grants support large grant funded activities that relate to one or more of the Six Areas of Focus and have a long-term sustainable impact.
Clubs can use District Designated Funds (DDF) or cash contributions to fund Global Grant activities and get matching fund from The Foundation.
When developing Grant funded activities Clubs must consider the following:
- Activities must be sustainable and measurable
- A Scholar’s studies must support one or more of the Areas of Focus
- A Vocational Training Team project must support capacity building either for the Team or for the benefitting community
- The activities must stem from real community needs
- Global Grants must be sponsored by two Rotary clubs or Districts: a Host partner in the country where the activity takes place and an International Partner outside of the country
- Importantly both Partners must be actively involved in the planning and implementing
The minimum award from the World Fund for a Global Grant is US$15000 which results in a minimum total financing of $30000 – as you all well know the World Fund Award is based on a 100% match of DDF and/or 50% cash of cash contributions.
Rotarians must submit a brief on-line proposal to the Grants Subcommittee (Michael Hodge) before submitting a formal application. That proposal should provide an overview of the Grant activity’s objectives and demonstrate how the activities fit within an Area of Focus.
Once the Grants Subcommittee has accepted the on-line proposal, the Club will submit an on-line application to The Foundation that provides more detailed grant activity and budget information as previously discussed with the Grant Subcommittee.
Once an Application has been approved by The Foundation, both Sponsors have authorised the Agreement, and all associated cash contributions have been received, The Foundation will issue a payment.
Reports showing measurable success of the Grant activity will be due to the Grants Subcommittee and The Foundation every twelve months from the first issue of payment.
It should be noted that Packaged Global Grants will offer a variety of sustainable projects and activities designed by The Rotary Foundation that incorporates best practices in the fields of education and International development. The Rotary Foundation is currently developing the first Packaged Global Grants for the Pilot and will notify Rotarians as they become available.
ROTARY FOUNDATION DISTRICT GRANTS
District Grants offer Clubs flexibility in carrying-out activities that support The Foundation’s Mission. Districts should distribute these Grant funds for relatively short term local activities.
It is likely that D-1130 will offer these local Grants on the basis of £500 each with the condition that the Club itself must add at least another £1000 to the funding for the particular project.
Clubs will need to be qualified by the District Foundation in order to receive District Grant Funds. The limited qualifications have not yet been quantified.
Activities for District Grants are not required to support the Areas of Focus, although applications that do support the six Areas of Focus.
District Grants are funded solely by District Designated Funds (DDF) generated from the District’s Annual Programmes Fund giving from three years prior. Districts request up to 50% of their DDF each year. Any unused District Grants must be returned to The Foundation and credited back to the District’s DDF balance.
ROTARY FOUNDATION – FUNDRAISING
Every amount contributed to The Rotary Foundation is spent in support of humanitarian, educational, and cultural programmes and their operations. Clubs and Districts apply for and receive Foundation Grants to carry out worthy projects worldwide.
