Junior Citizen Scheme

For many years the Metropolitan Police has co-ordinated the "Junior Citizen" programme for Year 6 Primary School children in London. This consists of a number of community safety scenarios to highlight situations that children and young people may encounter in day to day life. Numerous agencies support the project including London Fire Brigade, the Ambulance Service, British Transport Police, British Red Cross, various Local Authority departments, London Underground and Network Rail. Among the topics covered are Road and Rail Safety, Drugs, Personal Safety, Truancy, Fire Safety, Alcohol, Smoking and Vandalism.
Since 2004, the Children's Safety Education Foundation (CSEF) working together with the Police has produced a handbook to compliment the lessons learned by the children. The publication is National Curriculum coded to Key Stage 2, covering 7 to 11 year olds, which is also used in the classroom or under supervision at home.
The Foundation invites individual clubs to become sole 'sponsors' of individual Junior Citizen Primary School events. There are various levels of sponsorship ranging from Multi-Class Sponsorship for 35 children at £330 through to whole School sponsorship.
For those clubs who are outside the Metropolitan Police area, CSEF works in conjunction with local Forces to deliver the same message.
I have been fortunate to having been involved in Junior Citizens, albeit in a minor role assisting in the various exercises and can highly recommend the scheme. We would really like as many clubs as possible to get behind this worthwhile cause.
I am happy to speak to your Club if you wish. I work full time but I am sure that something can be arranged. There are a number of attachments relating to Junior Citizens and CSEF available that will be available on this website shortly.
